  • Purpose:

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis is a vision-threatening infection of the retina classically associated with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. It is an uncommon entity among patients with multiple myeloma (MM) and there exist only small case reports in the literature. This study presents the largest case series to date.

  • Methods:

A retrospective review of CMV retinitis cases among patients with MM at Mayo Clinic (Scottsdale, AZ; Rochester, MN; Jacksonville, FL) from 2013 to 2023.

  • Results:

A retrospective review of CMV retinitis cases among patients with MM at Mayo Clinic (Scottsdale, AZ; Rochester, MN; Jacksonville, FL) from 2013 to 2023.

  • Conclusions:

Vigilance for CMV retinitis is crucial in MM patients, especially following multiple treatments and ASCT. Prompt oral and/or intravitreal antiviral treatment ensures effective disease control and favorable visual outcomes.
