  • Purpose:

To determine which pediatric population undergoing a scleral buckle (SB) surgery would benefit from a glaucoma drainage device (GDD) concurrently.

  • Methods:

A retrospective review of pediatric patients aged <18 years who underwent SB surgery between 2013 and 2021. The cause for a SB, number of glaucoma medication pre- and post-operatively, and need for GDD were noted.

  • Results:

Out of all causes for a SB, a stage 1 GDD implantation concurrently with a SB in traumatic eyes seems to be justified to decrease the risks and complications of another surgery.

  • Conclusions:

Out of all causes for a SB, a stage 1 GDD implantation concurrently with a SB in traumatic eyes seems to be justified to decrease the risks and complications of another surgery.
