  • Cristina Wong,
  • Purpose:

To report a case of Pachychoroid pigment epitheliopathy (PPE) in young female with irritable bowel disease (IBD).

  • Case Report:

24-year-old female medical student with history of metamorphopsia and floaters in her right eye since august 2023 with concomitant nausea, bloating and constipation.

  • Discussion:

In this case we can observe how from a suggested history of inflammatory factors of gastrointestinal origin and the presence of thickened choroid could manifest irregularities on the functioning of Retina Pigment Epithelium leading to present metamorphopsia in her right eye.
Most common ocular reported manifestations related to IBS in studies are episcleritis (2-5%) and uveitis (0.5%-3.5%) and are more prevalent in woman (54.55%), which could correlate with the risk factors this patient presents.

  • Conclusions:

In the comprehensive interdisciplinary management of a patient with IBD it is important to include an ophthalmologic evaluation, treatment and follow up, since visual alterations could be the early symptoms of a patient's activity in IBD; and that in the case, of non-proper ocular treatment could lead to an irreversible visual impartment.
